Know the Rules for Your Move in Switzerland
Requirements are set nationally by the Federal Office of Transport, following a framework closely aligned with the EU’s own system despite Switzerland sitting outside the EU.
Before you rely on this
Switzerland licenses road goods transport nationally: the Bundesamt für Verkehr (BAV, Federal Office of Transport) issues a single “Lizenz” (transport licence) for the whole country, not a cantonal system. The Lizenz is held by the company operating the vehicles. Although Switzerland is not an EU member, its licensing conditions closely mirror the EU’s own framework under bilateral agreements, and Switzerland has recently moved to align its rules even further with the EU’s first Mobility Package. Always confirm current requirements directly before hiring a mover.
What kind of question is it?
