Know the Rules for Your Move in Brazil
A single national registration for companies operating their own cargo vehicles, administered by ANTT, with an unusually direct link between licensing and insurance.
Before you rely on this
Brazil does not license road carriers state-by-state: the RNTRC (National Register of Road Cargo Carriers) is a single national registration, administered by the Agência Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT), held by the company performing the paid road transport. Where a mover subcontracts the transport, the registration is held by the carrier performing it. What’s distinctive here is how tightly insurance is tied to the registration itself: since a 2025 regulatory update, three specific insurance policies are mandatory conditions of registration, and letting any one of them lapse automatically suspends the registration. Always confirm current requirements directly before hiring a mover.
What kind of question is it?
RNTRC registration with ANTT, required for paid road cargo transport in the mover’s own vehicles, with three specific mandatory insurance policies as a condition of registration.
Brazil →Governed by the Código de Defesa do Consumidor (Consumer Protection Code); consumers who didn’t use an ITM have a free, government-run complaint platform available directly.
