Know the Rules for Your Move in Italy

Requirements are set nationally, following the same EU framework as Germany, France, and the Netherlands, with a visible on-vehicle marking requirement that makes hire-and-reward status observable at a glance.

Before you rely on this

Like Germany, France, and the Netherlands, Italy licenses road haulage for hire and reward under the EU-wide professional goods-transport framework (Regulation 1071/2009), through registration in the Albo Nazionale degli Autotrasportatori (National Register of Hauliers) and its electronic counterpart (REN), administered provincially through the Ufficio Motorizzazione Civile covering the company’s registered office. Registration is held by the company operating the vehicles; where a mover subcontracts the haulage, the haulier performing it holds it. Always confirm current requirements directly before hiring a mover.

A visible compliance marker

Italian law requires vehicles operating “conto terzi” (for hire and reward) to display a diagonal stripe, a rare case where hire-and-reward operating status is visible on the vehicle itself.
