Know the Rules for Your Move in Ghana
An Operator’s License from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority is required for companies operating goods vehicles. Ghana does not yet have a comprehensive Consumer Protection Act.
Before you rely on this
Ghana licenses commercial goods transport through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), established in 1999 under Ministry of Transport oversight. Transport companies operating their own vehicles must hold a valid Operator’s License, and Class D covers heavy goods vehicles specifically. Where a mover subcontracts the transport, the carrier performing it holds these licences. Ghana’s comprehensive Consumer Protection Bill has been delayed in Parliament, with documented civil-society criticism of the delay as of late 2024. Always confirm current requirements directly before hiring a mover.
