Know the Rules for Your Move in Austria
A goods transport concession under the Goods Transport Act, held by the company that operates the vehicles and granted only if it meets the EU tests of good repute, financial standing, and professional competence.
Before you rely on this
Austria licenses road haulage at the company level. A mover that carries customers’ goods in its own vehicles needs a goods transport concession (Güterbeförderungskonzession) under the Güterbeförderungsgesetz 1995, which applies the EU rules on access to the road transport profession. International road moves in the mover’s own vehicles need a cross-border concession and an EU Community Licence. Where a mover subcontracts the transport, these are held by the carrier performing it. Research for these pages found no removal-specific contract rules in Austrian law; liability follows the general freight provisions of the Commercial Code. Always confirm current requirements directly before hiring a mover.
