Know the Rules for Your Move in South Africa
A lighter-touch domestic licensing structure: goods transport isn’t covered by South Africa’s public transport operating-licence law.
Before you rely on this
South Africa’s National Land Transport Act, which requires an operating licence for public transport, explicitly does not apply to the transportation of goods, only to passenger transport for reward. A goods vehicle over 3,500kg is instead registered under the National Road Traffic Act, with the registered owner automatically becoming the vehicle’s “operator” and issued an Operator Card as part of standard vehicle registration, rather than through a separate business-licensing application. Always confirm current requirements directly before hiring a mover.
What kind of question is it?
